Kobe: The Hidden City

Time ago, you might remember i posted the map between the dormintory an the school (see above). The above is the same map with a couple of arrows more..

Yesterday was raining a lot. Fortunately, the train station is just 5 minutes away from my dormitory. On the map, the purple line, shows the subway line that takes me to the main station in sannomiya (underground).

Now, you are about to discover the "Hidden City of Kobe". The Blue line displayed above is the main street going to my school and here is a view:

Now, the amazing thing. The following is from the same point of view of the above picture, but 10 meters below surface!

It's amazing, all the way along the blue line from the first picture, there is a whole city below. It looks like in Science fiction movies. Hundreds of Shops, Stores and restaurants.

To give you an idea, they call it the "New Kobe" and there is a map for it:

The amazing thing is that on rainy days, i just have to walk 5 minutes to the train station and i can just walk underground all the way to the school! There are exits every 100 meters or so, therefore, i just get out near the school and once reached the surface, just 2 minutes by walk.

The pictures above were shot today (sunny) but you still see a lot of people down there. I think the reason is that walking underground, you don't have to wait for the traffic light for pedestrians to turn green, you can just....walk or run... if you are in a rush ;)

Another amazing fact, is that above where they built the whole "Underground " city, there are a lot of tall buildings. I have no idea how they managed, but it is really an amazing piece of engineering!
